The series starts with Alice Tibbs, setting off to work as a teacher on a desolate headland in Kent. Secrets of the Shingle is the story of her adapting to a hostile environment and solving the mystery of a body of a woman found on the shingle.
In Stranger on the Point, we meet Lily, Alice's headstrong daughter. She has her own troubles when visiting Dungeness and a crime to solve.
The Artist's Gift takes us to WW2, with Alice's granddaughter being the main character. It begins with the family being in Lydd church when it is bombed, and their story continues with fictional characters being amongst real events.
