The tolling of the death knell echoes throughout Canterbury - a city in the midst of renovations. Then the call comes: 'I need men. Masons and carpenters.'

At Midley, on desolate Romney Marsh, a messenger arrives. He heralds fresh plans for the hamlet, and the people prepare to welcome the newcomers.

They left Canterbury with the best intentions but, by the time the men arrive, they carry a secret.
